Our Founder, C. DeWitt Foard

C. DeWitt Foard founded and led the firm from 1964 until the time of his death in 1999. He was a native of Union County, NC and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the School of Business at the University of Chapel Hill. He was an avid Tarheel basketball fan and a member of the RAMS Club. Mr. Foard served in the 30th infantry Division of the U.S. Army in the European theatre during World War II. He was an active member of his church, Myers Park Baptist Church, for many years including singing in the Chancel Choir for 40 years. In addition, he was actively involved with the Mental Health Association serving as the President of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Chapter for a period of time.

He was a disciplined and an ambitious man that had an expectation of excellence from his staff. He desired to have a company that would provide exemplary service to the Charlotte community and become a name that people could trust and respect. His desire to have a presence in the community was mirrored in the physical presence of his own office. When furnishing his first office in uptown Charlotte, he walked into the store and requested the largest desk that they had in stock. It was massive, it was a statement in and of itself. When the firm eventually relocated, the desk had to go with him and therefore had to be resized to simply fit through the doors of the new space. It is still present in the office today. It has stood the test of time, just as his name.

Mr. Foard’s active role in his church exposed him to the community’s need for qualified professionals to aid the growing not-for-profit industry in Charlotte. What started from meager beginnings has grown to a company that supports and aids over 300 not-for-profit organizations and churches as well as tax services for thousands of clients.
